The steering makes the difference
Non-steered semitrailers
They are equipped with unsteered axles with a mechanical or air suspended axle unit.
Friction steering semitrailers
The steering actuation of the trailing axle is realised by frictional force which results from the axle load when cornering. A pneumatic reversing interlock is integrated into the system in order to provide the necessary rigidity of the friction steered axle when reversing. The friction steering system offers better cornering and less tyre wear than unsteered vehicles.
Force steered semitrailers
The steering actuation for these vehicles is realised hydraulically. An adjustable steering key on the fifth wheel coupling serves to transfer the steering angle hydraulically to the semitrailer chassis. Goldhofer implements this hydraulic steering actuation system by means of a flat slide valve design with guides. The steering is designed as a hydraulic twin-circuit steering system. This ensures that even in the event of failure in one of the steering circuits, the continued safe function of the steering system is guaranteed. In addition, the hydraulic forced steering system offers the option of manually readjusting the steering, in order to manoeuvre the semitrailer independently from the tractor vehicle.
Turntable steering
The steering actuation for these vehicles is identical to that of the mechanically controlled steering system. The steering of the chassis is undertaken via a bolster which is mounted on a fixed axle.
